Another Christmas gift

Today I made a handy little needlework pouch from a kit I picked up at Cutting Cloth. Well mostly from the kit; I did need to add some fabric myself, partly due to my misunderstanding the kit contents and partly due to deficiencies in the kit. The kit included the pattern, Make and Go Pouch by Aneela Hoey, some fabric, zips, threads and notions but unfortunately no instructions as to how to cut the different pieces from the included fabric. The pattern listed five different pieces of cotton print but only four were included in the kit, one of them quite small. If I had done a bit of math at the start I could have worked out how to cut all the pieces from the available fabric but, as usual, I was in too much of a hurry and cut the larger pieces before I realised the remaining pieces could not be cut from the smallest. Luckily I had some suitable replacement cotton in my stash, along with a piece of felt to replace the too small piece included in the kit.

The quilting I did on the outside cover was not in the pattern, I just thought I’d like to practice my recently acquired quilting skills. There are two vinyl pockets and one fabric pocket, all with zips, plus a pincushion and a felt needlefold on top of the fabric pocket. The pouch folds in three and is closed with a simply tie. It didn’t take long to make, once I sorted out my fabric cutting issues, and I think would be a handy pouch for knitting or crochet notions as well, minus the pincushion and needlefold. This one I may send to my mother if I can work out a way to write her name on it, and mine as the maker, so it doesn’t go missing in her nursing home.
