The 2023 craft project review

It would have been much easier to write a review of my crafting year if I’d thought to keep this blog earlier than September. Oh well, at least Ravelry has my back for most of my knitting and crochet projects. Here are my completed yarn projects for the year:

17 projects using just over 13,000m of yarn, including:

  • 2 Baby blankets ( 1 knit and 1 crochet)
  • 5 sweaters (all knit)
  • 1 cardigan (knit)
  • 6 pairs of socks (all knit)
  • 4 beanies (all knit)
  • 1 scarf (woven)

For my fabric projects I don’t have good notes but I know I’ve made:

  • 12 pencil/notion cases
  • 6 project bags
  • 2 tshirts
  • 1 patchwork quilt (cot size)

I’m quite sure I bought far more yarn and fabric than I used up even though I stopped buying both yarn and fabric in September and started trying to reduce my stashes. My original idea with the Year of Stash Projects was to keep making from my stashes for one year or until a stash was 10% of its starting size. I didn’t specifically measure all the fabric and yarn in my stashes when I started but considering how little I have used so far it seems very unlikely that I will use up 90% of either stash before September 2024.

A January mini-challenge might help get me motivated to reduce the fabric stash at least. More practice at sewing, and especially pattern adjustment and fitting, will give me more confidence as well and that should motivate me to tackle a few big projects that will use up large pieces of material from the stash. I will try to make four garments in January from my stash: a blouse, a dress, a tshirt and some pyjama pants.

I did take this rather horrifying photo of my yarn stash in early September when I tried and failed to get it all stored in the available boxes. Although it hasn’t reduced by much it is a lot tidier now!
